Bonefish Grill
$$

This past weekend my boyfriend and I decided to go to Bonefish Grill! It was his first but my second time going. My first experience was terrible! Upon arrival, even though we had reservations, we had to wait maybe 15 minutes. Then when we were seated, we didn't get to order for like 30 minutes and once we did, the waitress didn't come back for who knows how long and when she did she had appetizers but we still had no drinks or bread and pesto! She just seemed out of it, she was very inattentive and kept forgetting to bring things we'd asked for ages ago. My drink was terrible and they messed up my order for both my appetizer and entreé!

But even after all that I wanted to give them a second chance chose because the food was actually pretty good and I liked the ambience in the restaurant. This time around the service was complete 180! Damien made us reservations and we were seated as soon as we arrived. Our waiter was awesome, he was very attentive and prompt. We were never without anything!

So for appetizers I had the Cold Snap Fresh Ceviche and it was absolutely delicious, not to mention extremely cool (no pun intended) to look at lol

My boyfriend had their famous Bang Bang shrimp which was surprisingly underwhelming, nothing to write home about but they seem to be so raved about...maybe it's me #kanyeshrug

Then for our entreés, he had a burger, which is what he orders 98% of time at any given restaurant, and starting eating before I could snap a picture lol

I had the Bonefish Grill salad with grilled chicken it was served with a citrus dressing which was good but didn't have much kick for it to be a citrus dressing. But I'm just glad it was made the right way this time!

After downing two martinis, neither one of us finished our food, which almost never happens, so we didn't order dessert. I definitely recommend either going on a slow day (Monday or Tuesday) or late around 10-10:30 like we did so that it's not so crowded. I feel like that may have played a part in our poor service the first time. But all in all it was a good experience and I definitely plan to go back to try some new things from their menu.

Verdict: Bonefish Grill in Savannah is bomdotcom approved 👍
Like I've mentioned before, I'm a huge diy'er and that's for all parts of my life but especially my hair! I'm always looking for natural ways to care for my hair and most times I find myself in the kitchen. So today is a simple mask I whipped up yesterday since Fall is officially here and I wanna jump the gun on the dryness I usually experience with cooler weather.

As with any of my recipes this can be tweaked for your needs. I needed something with moisture and strength, so I went with avocado (moisture) and an egg yolk (protein/strength). I also added a teaspoon of coconut oil, but you can use your favorite oil or leave it out completely.

So first you want to scoop the avocado into a bowl and mash it up, you don't want big chunks in there, but you'll still probably have a few small ones

Then add the oil (if using) and egg yolk

Make sure you mix it thoroughly, continuing to mash any avocado bits

Next I took my mask to the bathroom (the reason behind the yellowish tint in my photos), sectioned my hair and went to work!

I like to apply it sort of like a relaxer, in thin sections so that every hair gets coated

Once done with a section, I twist it up and move to the next one. When all my hair is done I put on a plastic shower cap and let it sit for about an hour or so, but 15-30 minutes will also do the trick!

After an hour, I rinsed it out in the shower then shampooed and conditioned as normal. My hair felt much stronger and heavier after the mask which is awesome for me because I have very fine hair so anything that adds weight is good. I feel it has helped with moisture retention because I'm posting this three days later and I haven't had to remoisturize my hair yet! I've been doing homemade hair recipes for about 4 years or so and they haven't let me down yet.

Also for any hair fanatics (like me) out there who love a good length check (or hair porn in general 😁), here's where I am currently

I'll be three years natural in December and it has been a journey full of ups and downs and I'm still trying to get the hang of it! I hope to be waist length next year sometime 😊

And for that leftover egg white, if you're like me and hate to waste, you can do what I did and use it as a face mask! You can use it plain or add different stuff like lemon (for lightening), honey (for moisture), or unsweetened applesauce or baking soda (for exfoliation)...but please test it on an inconspicuous place first to make sure you don't have any type of allergic reaction.

I used it plain and layered it with tissue paper. I first whipped up the egg white until it was foamy then applied a layer on my face. Next I pulled the tissue paper in half then into strips and placed them over the egg white. Then finally I did another layer of egg white and let it harden for about 20 minutes or so

*isn't she lovely!! Lol 😁*

When I finally peeled it off, my skin was noticeably smoother and the pores around my nose were not as black as they usually look. So overall I was happy with the results, it's something that I can see myself doing again, maybe a few times a month. So I hope this was useful or at least entertaining and til next time ✌️

This week, while downtown, my bf and I decided to grab something to eat. His first suggestion was burgers (as usual) but I'm 'burgered' out so to my surprise he said Mexican! He NEVERRRR asks for Mexican, although it happens to be one of my absolute favorite types of food, he's just not that big a fan of the cuisine. But of course I jumped at the chance and we headed to Tequila's Town.

This was only my second time going and of course, they did not dissapoint! I always try to order new things, so I went for the chimichangas because they were described as "deep-fried and covered in cheese" 😍 how could I say no? It was everything you could imagine, crunchy, cheesy, savory and full of flavor! It was a true foodgasm! And the salsa, oh my glob, the salsa! Even the waiter was drool worthy, it was arguably the BEST service I've had in a restaurant, we didn't want for anything, he was on top of everything, which just made the whole experience that much better.

So if you're ever craving some awesome Mexican in savannah make sure you stop by Tequila's Town on Whitaker Street! They even won a foodie award, what a perfect #foodiefriday. Til next time ✌️

Georgia rapper, DeVin Maze, recently released his pre-tape, The Exhale Project. With only a couple of features, Maze definitely makes up for his long hiatus and gives us a nice sample of what he's capable of and what to expect from him in the future. My personal favorites are tracks 5 and 6, but that may be because they appeal to the r&b lover in me. TEP is definitely a great prequel to his upcoming album, SIRKUS, due to be released later this year. I love that the tracklist is short and sweet and hope you enjoy it as much as I do, til next time ✌️
I just wanted to quickly share my Friday night dinner with you guys because I've been looking foward to making this meal all week! This was my first time having filet mignon so I went all out, I made an appetizer, salad and desert, we even had a bottle of wine to top it off!

For my appetizer, I went with coconut shrimp. I usually don't care for coconut in anything but these shrimp were bombdotcom! I served a simple salad and homemade ranch dressing with these.

Next came the main attraction, pan fried filet mignon, roasted herb potatoes, and string beans.

I used my cast iron skillet for the steaks and they came out awesome! I didn't really need sauce but I'm a chronic dipper, I put some sort of sauce on just about everything, that's just me #kanyeshrug

Finally was my sherbet/sorbet, I used blueberries and strawberries, it was to die for!

That wraps it up, hope this inspires someone to challenge themselves in the kitchen, try something new and really throw down! Though this meal took me hours, it was SO worth it. I hope you'll join me next friday with your own #foodiefriday meals, tweet me @ibenncocky :)

So about a month and a half ago I decided I wanted to start a garden. My mom has a garden so I was already pretty familiar with how to get started. First I decided what I wanted to grow and where I would grow it, this was my first dilemma. I live on the top floor in a duplex  apartment with limited space for a garden. Since I only rent here I didn't know if I could use the backyard, which is also used for parking sometimes, for my plants so I decided to do a container garden on my "porch". I put that in quotations because I'm not sure if it can truly be called a porch, it's just a staircase with an extended top step...if that makes sense. But anyway, once I had an idea for how this could work I went out and got my supplies!

I started with snap pea and carrot seeds and potting soil from dollar tree. I also got a few planters from there, I like to be as thrifty as possible when starting new projects =). Next I went to Home Depot, who had their herb, fruit and veggie plants on sale 5 for $10, so I picked up 2 strawberry plants, 2 pepper plants (sweet red and orange) and a cilantro plant as well as some plant food and gloves just because I wanted to feel official (and not mess up my nails lol). For my other planters, I used two milks jugs, the bottom half of a 2 L soda bottle and my mom, who generously donated 5 garlic plants to my garden, supplied the last planter.

So far things had been going smoothly until this past weekend. I was in Atlanta and my poor plants all but died in the Savannah sun! My once almost too bountiful cilantro plant was knocked over and sizzled to a crisp against the metal staircase =(, the pepper plants' leaves were horribly wilted and one strawberry plant gave up on life. Thankfully all was not lost because I've nursed them all, save the cilantro, back to health since and my garlic and snap peas didn't suffer much. There are no before pictures but this is what I'm working with now.

This is my red sweet pepper plant that has two peppers coming in and I'm sooooo excited! I buy TONS of peppers, almost every week, which is why I wanted to grow my own, I know I'll save money because they are not cheap!

Here's my orange bell pepper plant, which only has one fruit but I'm hopeful for more, it was wilted so bad that the top half of it had to be cut so I'll be watching it carefully.

My garlic has been prospering since I brought them home from my mom's. Also if you look closely you can see how pitiful my cilantro looks now, it's the between the garlic and strawberry plants. The strawberry plants have produced maybe 3 or 4 fruit but the were all pretty tiny, like no bigger than the top half of my thumb, so I'm thinking of planting them in something with a little more room soon.

And last are my snap peas which have been sprouting up like crazy but no fruit yet. I'm not sure what their flowers, if they have any, look like but so far it's been all green. I've read they get up to 6 ft so I may have get bigger sticks soon to keep them upright.

And a group picture plus my "porch" =)

**from top left, clockwise: snap peas, starwberries, cilantro (in recovery), garlic, (newly planted) flowers, red pepper, orange pepper**

So that's what I have so far, I'm happy to see my plants recovering and bearing fruit! When my cilantro bounces back, I'll be sure to do an update post. But I just wanted to show you that growing a garden doesn't have to be hard and you don't need a lot of space (or money) to get started! Plus it's fun! It teaches me paitience and persistence, which I definitely need in my life. I'm no expert so I'm always open for suggestions/comments or questions. Hopefully I inspire someone to try their hand at growing something. ✌️
So I've decided to get back on track with a lot of things in my life, one being blogging! I haven't had an active blog since 2011! Another being, eating better...as of late I've been munching on everything in sight and eating out wayyyyyy more than I normally do. But for the last few days I've been really good about watching what I eat, I've even started back keeping track of my calories (as much as I hate doing it sometimes, for me that is the BEST way to get in control of my eating/weight) I'm the type of person that has to be able see exactly what's going on in order to change it for the better. So since I've been more health conscious I, of course, had to restock on foods! Being the pretty frugal person I wanted to do this in the cheapest way possible because I already spend enough on groceries, and healthier foods have a rep of being pricey. So I waited until I needed food before getting my new healthy stuff. Now I didn't go crazy on my first trip, the biggest thing for me was brown rice, bell peppers, various fruits, spinach, sweet potatoes, romaine lettuce and fish (tilapia) -- all of that (though I bought other things I needed at the same time) wasn't more than about $20 but I have to admit that I shop at about 3 different stores when I make groceries to get the best deals. I am a bargain hunter! And that will last for about two weeks....in all a whole restock grocery trip costs me around 60-80$ but that's when I'm buying multiple meats and cheeses and such. Anywho I feel like I'm rambling but to get to the point I've also decided to start back working out. I have my calendar made with a schedule. I've taken on the squat and plank challenge as well as two other personalized workouts. I've committed to four weeks of healthy eating and exercise in hopes it will be a nice jumpstart to get me back in the routine of it.....because I've been kinda down lately after losing my job but I'll get into that later. Back to my new goals/plans, so far I've gotten back to cooking daily and by keeping calorie counts have noticed ALL of my meals are under 400 and 500 calories (without trying!) but are filling! I'm always scouring the web trying to find healthy ways to get full because though I wanna be fit, I still wanna eat lol so I'll be sharing my recipes which are also wallet-friendly and use ingredients you probably already have or that are only a few dollars to get and can be used in many other dishes! &&I'm also getting back into my beauty stuff, I used to always keep my nails done (I do them myself, various art designs) and my hair as well but like I said, I haven't really been myself lately so I fell off....but last week for the first time in years, I went to a nail shop to get acrylics since I hadn't been taking care of my nails and they were busted!! (although when I was doing them regularly I never went to the nail shop, my natural nails were long and strong, hoping to get back to that soon!) anyway so I go to this place "Modern Nails" they had pretty good reviews from what I saw on the web but not 10 minutes in the lady cuts my pinky finger (yes there was blood) with the drill! Then has me stick said finger into acetone!!! Talk about the worst shit ever lol luckily she let someone else finish me up, a young guy named Tony, who was awesome btw....I think may go back to them until my nails grow out to my liking. They even give massages while you wait for your nails to dry which was nice! As for my hair, I've been doing my best to keep my hands out of it by wearing my big, curly wig but with the weather warming up it's the perfect excuse to buy a new wig, something short and sexy. I'm a huge short hair fan but deathly afraid to cut mine lol so wigs let me live that fantasy!
I think I'll stop here because my fingers are tired and this app kinda sucks but it's better than using safari on this phone but I'll be back with the meals I've made, none of which have more than 500 calories per serving but I must add that I've chosen to only eat calories and not drink them so all these meals I drink water with, any other drink may add more calories but I know not everyone can go cold turkey, baby steps! And to be honest, this is my baby step back to normality...but anywho bye for now

=)
